David Trubridge Ltd are insanely beautiful lamps with a sustainable DNA and a wealth of color options and designs. David is an English designer who actually trained as a naval architect, and the architectural influence is evident in his designs. David and his wife sold everything they owned when they were very young and went on a circumnavigation with their two young children. During these travels, David was deeply fascinated by the beautiful nature around the world, and it's this inspiration that can be seen in his designs today and makes him and his lamps unique. David Trubridge's passion for sustainability permeates all of his designs and down to the smallest detail, thought has been given to protecting the environment and thinking in new and better materials. The lamps are made to last a lifetime and be a beautiful and constant reminder of the beauty and whims of nature.

The following is an excerpt from various interviews in a number of design magazines from Europe and Asia that have been published over the past few years. They are selected and put together in a way that elegantly emphasizes and defines what producer (and man) David Trubridge stands for.
NUTRITION I yearn to find a way to bring cultural nourishment to people's lives without using precious resources and energy. We have far too much 'stuff' in our homes, which is essentially nothing more than junk food, for the eyes, designed to leave us hungry for more. How can we create real and lasting nourishment without ending up with a mess of often useless objects that waste valuable resources and harm the environment! Design that doesn't solve this problem is, I believe, both irresponsible and irrelevant.
MODE I'm not interested in trends or fashion as this just makes you a 'follower'. I try to find my own heart and have the confidence to speak from it, with heartfelt integrity and in my own voice. I don't like the current trend in design that seeks originality in the clever, witty or ironic - such gimmicks are one-liner jokes we laugh at once but quickly forget. I can't always be fashionable, but I believe that in the long run, integrity, originality and consistency will be important and winning factors because every artist is unique.\ I don't want to put a name to what amounts to a superficial pop song, as they may well be the biggest hit today, but gone into the mists of oblivion tomorrow. It is my dream to create something that, like Bach's music, is not only remembered but can still inspire even hundreds of years later.
**THE DESIGN PROCESS I don't design to fulfill a simple practical function. I design to communicate, to tell a story, to convey what I find in the mountains and desert and what it means to be human. As an artist, I develop forms and create a vocabulary from what I see and feel around me. This is my personal language that I use to tell my story. As a designer, I can then use the shapes and the created vocabulary in my designs. If I as a person wasn't so deeply involved and rooted in the initial parts of the creation process, my work wouldn't evolve and I would end up just repositioning and changing lines and thoughts conceived by others before me, and what's the point of that?\ I use the knowledge my craft gives me to create a design. Art, craft and design are all equally important parts of the whole creative process.
WHY WE NEED ART I believe that we need great works of art because they help define what it means to be human. Art is very important as it constantly questions and pushes our boundaries of understanding and experience. It's the art of finding the edge that creates the friction that keeps the spark of life alive. Without the constant movement of art we are static and lifeless. Artists are the genetic mutations that are essential for the continued philosophical and mental development of humans. Most will die out and be forgotten, but if we are not there to encourage them all, we will miss out on the few brilliant and vital advances.
