The adventure began in 1968 when legendary Danish designer Benny Frandsen created his first lamp - and since then, the Frandsen brand has never stopped innovating, developing and expanding their vast collection of wonderful designs.
Today, Frandsen's range consists of a wonderful mix of innovative innovations and timeless classics - and the Frandsen brand has managed to bridge the gap between the Danish design heritage and the driving curiosity behind the brand's success. The lamp that started the whole adventure is Benny Frandsen's Ball. The lamp was designed in '68 and is just as smart today as it was in the late 60s, which is living proof of the timelessness that characterizes Frandsen lamps.
The story of Frandsen Lighting & Benny Frandsen
When we lost Benny Frandsen in 2021, we lost a Danish design legend. We lost a leading icon and we lost a significant member of the Danish design heritage.
He founded Frandsen Belysning in 1968 in connection with the ball lamp, and merged with the Fritz Hansen Group. Only three years later, Frandsen bought back his own company and renamed it Frandsen Lighting - which was the start of the adventure that would unfold over the next many years.
New variants and models were introduced and Frandsen quickly became an internationally recognized name. In 2018, Benny Frandsen celebrated his 50th anniversary, and in 2019 Frandsen became part of the Bestseller company NINE UNITED, which also houses Verpan and &Tradition, among others. NINE UNITED is currently headquartered in Horsens, Denmark, and has more than 700 employees in Europe and Asia.
Benny Frandsen passed away in September 2021, but his spirit lives on in the many beautiful lamps that can still be purchased at Frandsen.
Frandsen lamps in interior design
All of the company's lamps will in their own way help create the setting of a home, and it was important to Benny Frandsen that customers could add their own touch to many of the products. This can be done by choosing one of their many vibrant colors for the lampshades.
At Frandsen Lighting A/S they are focused on design and product development. In the old days, they made minor changes to their range once a year - but today the product range is changed continuously. New catalogs are published twice a year and their range of both lamps and shades are revised as needed.
They are known for making good quality lamps at a reasonable price. Aesthetics and functionality rise above the average, creating the framework for an exciting and cutting-edge interior design. Benny Frandsens Ball
Ball was the lamp that began the adventure for Benny Frandsen and Frandsen as a company. The small round ball has become a true evergreen in Scandinavian interiors, and Ball is just as elegant today as it was when it was first released. The lamp is available in a wide range of variants: wall lamp, floor lamp, table lamp and pendant. From brass and copper to glossy and matte colors, there's something for everyone and there's something to suit every interior style. Ball lamps have the simplicity that many are looking for, and at the same time they have the edge that allows the lamp to really make its mark on its surroundings. The round design is classic and plays well with the light in the lamp, which is a nice centered light due to the nice round metal shade.

Frandsens Lyss
However, Frandsen also has plenty of lamps designed in more recent times - such as the always wonderful Lyss, designed by Frandsen's Head of Design Toni Rie. She is behind several lamps at Frandsen - but Lyss is a fantastic example of her great skills in Scandinavian design.
Lyss is one of those lights that is hard to put on a timeline. If you don't know it, it could just as easily be from the 1960s as the 2020s - and that's what makes it so unique and beautiful. The razor-sharp and easily recognizable silhouette gives it a timeless look - it will never go out of style, and its versatility makes it suitable for almost any interior design.
Toni Rie, Head of Design
Since 2013, Toni Rie Lauridsen has steered the creative helm at Frandsen as Head of Design. She is a designer herself and is behind many of the new designs that Frandsen releases. These include Lyss, Ombre, Air and Cadis.
BF-20 Series
The BF-20 is one of the newest members of Frandsen's large range of lamps. The series is available in several different variants - but we would especially like to highlight the wall lights, which in our eyes are the essential BF-20 models.
The design is extremely interesting as it exists at the intersection of several different design directions. The silhouette is classic, drawing clear lines to Frandsen as a brand's design heritage and Benny Frandsen's historical designs. It is round and is like a nostalgic tribute to the wonderful Ball lamps. However, along with the flashback, you also get a futuristic, almost industrial design that leaves joints, screws and switches visible.
The wall light is direct and the light is perfect for hanging next to a desk or in a cozy reading corner. While the lamp shines downwards, it also has a soft diffused light that escapes from the top of the lamp. The upward light surrounds the lamp, giving the room around it a soft, gentle ambient light - and reminding the viewer that their BF-20 wall light is on.
Butterfly lamps
Initially, the Butterfly lamps were released as pendants - but it wasn't long before the series and range were greatly expanded. Table and floor lamps are now available in Butterfly variants and are wonderful additions to any interior.
Once again, Frandsen, with Toni Rie behind the design helm, has created a lamp that is both nostalgic and modern. The series is visually beautifully cohesive - and while they're wonderful on their own, it's especially beautiful when you combine them across the board.
The silhouette consists of two opposing spheres, with the lower one providing direct light and the upper one allowing soft ambient light to escape through small perforations. Once again, Frandsen hits the nail on the head when it comes to Scandinavian design - and as always, you can get the beautiful and exquisite Butterfly in a sea of wonderful and delicious shades.
