BackgroundItalian designer Tobias Scarpa is the son of architect Carlo Scarpa. In collaboration with his wife, Afra, he has created numerous products for international producers like
Flos, Cassina, Knoll and B&B Italia. Together they have developed useful luxury design, all based on quality technology and exciting materials.
Tobia and Afra Scarpa went to Instituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice in the late 1950’s and started their career at the Venini glass factory. In 1960 they opened their own studio in Montebelluna, where furniture such as the Chair Model 917 were manufactured by Cassina.
Tobia Scarpa and Pier Castiglioni designed some of the first lamps for Dino Gavina’s new company Flos, and today the company as well as the lamps are well known throughout the world. The Papillon lamp (1973) from Flos was one of the first lamps to use then-new halogen technology.
