Hanging heights knowledge

Dining table

When hanging a lamp over your dining table, the first thing to consider is that you need to be able to see the head of the person sitting opposite.\ As a general rule of thumb, large lamps should hang 60-75 cm above the table from the bottom edge of the lamp.\ Small lamps are typically hung between 55-65 cm above the table, from the bottom edge of the lamp.\ If you need more than one lamp hanging above the table, hang the lamps approximately 80 cm apart. Check that the light cones reach each other to achieve even lighting on the table.\ Test where you think the lamp hangs best before you finish mounting it.

The kitchen table

Lamps above the kitchen counter should hang approx. 75-80 cm above the worktop and for best working conditions, it's a good idea to use matt lighting to avoid shadows. For example, you can use soft bulbs or matte pin halogens.\ To avoid shading yourself when working, measure the width of the table, take a third of the measurement and use that as the measurement from the wall.\ Preferably use more small lamps than one large one and hang them so that the light cones hit each other for the most uniform light.

**The coffee table

Pendants above the coffee table should be hung so that they don't interfere with your view of the TV or those sitting opposite you. Try to get someone to hold it up and try to sit and stand back up from the couch to make sure it's at a safe distance from your head.\ When choosing lighting for the living room in general, there are usually several needs to be covered. So think about having four to five lamps around the sofa and choose lamps according to your needs, mood light, reading light etc. But choose lamps that shine both upwards and downwards. Lamps that shine downwards create an intimate atmosphere, while lamps that shine upwards make the room appear larger.

**The office desk

When you sit and work at your office desk, light is extremely important. Here are some suggestions on what to look out for.

We recommend hanging ceiling lights at a minimum height of 120 cm. They can easily hang higher, depending on the ceiling height of the room.

It's also important that you get plenty of natural light, so to make the most of daylight, it's a good idea to position your table so that light comes in from the side. That way, you won't be bothered by it either.

Experiment with different positions of your lights to make sure there are no annoying reflections.\ The best way to position your task light is to position it so that the light comes in from the side below eye level. This way you avoid reflections and use a flexible table lamp so you can adjust it to your needs.

**The Billiard Table

To get the best lighting over your billiard table, there are some rules you can follow. This applies to both the number of screens and illuminance. The number of screens depends on the size of your billiard table.

Here you can see how many monitors are recommended for different table sizes 7 feet: 2-3 screens 8 feet: 3 screens 9 feet: 4 screens 10 ft & 12 ft: 4 or 5 screens

The lamps should hang approx. 90 cm from the table to the bottom edge of the lamp. DDBU's official rules say between 85 and 95 cm.\ The official rules state that there must be at least 520 lux above the table, which corresponds to 3 lamps, each with 150 watts. But as a private individual, you can make do with 3 lamps, each with 75 watts.\ It's a good idea to also have some room lighting and the official rules state that there should be a minimum of 50 lux, or 40 watts.

**The official DDBU rules for lighting at the billiard table are as follows

  1. Lighting in the worst illuminated area should be at min. 260 lux, otherwise there must be min. be 520 lux (e.g. 3 x 150 watts) on the billiard surface. The lamps should hang as follows: One above\ the center and the other 2 should hang 12 cm from the salvoline line towards the bottom band.\ Use of luminaires with fluorescent lamps is allowed.
  2. The lighting must not be brighter than 900 lux.
  3. The distance between the light sources and the playing surface must be at least 85 cm.
  4. The venue must not be in total darkness, but must be illuminated\ outside the playing area with at least 50 lux (40 watts).
  5. For televised events, pcs. 2. and 3. are waived if the light does not dazzle.
  6. The light sources must be suspended in a movable position so that mass impact can be performed.

Brewer's table

You can hang lamps over the utility room table in the same way you hang lamps over your kitchen table. The lamps should hang approximately. 75-80 cm above the tabletop and to avoid shading yourself when working, measure the width of the table, take a third of the measurement and use that as the measurement from the wall.\ In the utility room, it's important to have good task lighting, so choose both pendant lights above the table and spotlights or ceiling lights in the ceiling.

**About the bar

Lights above the bar should be hung so you have a clear view. Therefore, calculate to hang the lamp approximately. 53-60 cm above the bar. Try to get someone to hold while you sit on the bar stool. It's important that the lamp is neither too low so that it interferes with your view, nor too high so that it dazzles you.
