Design lamps for kids and kids' rooms

At Lampmasters.ie you'll find cute and cozy lamps for the children's room where no compromise has been made on quality or safety. Our children deserve the best light, and you can find it right here. Read our guide to get inspired and get great ideas for your kids room.

Should children's lights be LED?

Whether your children's lights should be LED or not is obviously not for us to decide, but we would definitely recommend that you choose LED. LEDs are incredibly energy efficient, so you can leave the light on all night without worrying about your electricity bill. The bulbs don't get hot like old incandescent bulbs, so your children won't be able to burn themselves on the light source and besides being energy efficient, LEDs also have a long lifespan - generally 25,000 hours. We would definitely recommend LED - not just for the kids' room, but for the whole house.

Design lamps in the nursery - our best suggestions

Our top picks for nursery lamps are the cute and adorable creatures from Mr Maria. We have Nanuk in the boys' room and Miffy in the girls' room and believe us, it's a hit.

The lamps from Mr Maria can be dimmed, with a small round switch you can dim it to almost off. You can keep them\ on all night on the lowest setting and since they are LED, you don't have to worry about power consumption or safety.

Nanuk, seen here, is a large and adorable polar bear measuring 41cm. It spreads warm and atmospheric light in the evening hours and looks great in the daytime when switched off - a sweet friend any child would love.

Miffy, Nanuk and all the other cute animals from Mr Maria are of course tested and approved! As you can see, Mr Maria lamps are a great choice as you don't have to worry about safety or your electricity bill, and of course the lamp doesn't get hot, so you can hug and kiss your child all you want. We promise you that it will be your child's best friend.

Another popular lamp in the nursery is Eos from UMAGE. The feather lamp, as many call it, is a beautiful and fluffy lamp that certainly fits in many places in the home, but especially in children's rooms.

Add a color bulb from Philips Hue and choose from 16 million colors that you can control via an app on your smartphone or tablet.

Eos is available in White, Brown and Gray, as well as many sizes and you can choose a pendant, table stand, floor stand or the new wall stand. Another new addition is the Eos wall light, which can also be an option in your child's room.

I have to mention Light Strips, which is also from Philips Hue. You can probably tell I'm pretty excited about Philips Hue, but it's just so brilliant and easy.

The Light Strips can be bent and shaped exactly how you want it and they are simply trimmed at the marks to the desired length and finally, you plug it into the socket and connect to your bridge.

You can highlight different parts of the room and you can create indirect light with effects as you wish. Installing Hue Light Strips is extremely easy as they have tape on the back and therefore only need to be attached where you want them.

Attach it around your child's bed, desk or under the dresser. You can code the light to turn on slowly in the morning or dim slowly in the evening. You have 16 million colors again and you can adjust the brightness, make it flash and much, much more.

The possibilities are endless - so let your imagination run wild and play with light!

If we were to recommend a ceiling light, it would be Being from Philips Hue, which is a beautiful and timeless lamp that has many functions. Being has built-in LED and can be controlled via the same app as your color bulb - if you think it's too technical, even though it's incredibly simple, a remote control with fixed settings is included.

The Being ceiling light is White Ambiance, which means it provides white light that you can adjust according to whether you want a cold or warm light. It has 4 prints that give 4 different colors of white. In addition to being able to adjust the kelvin level, you can also dim the lamp with your remote control. The ceiling light provides a direct downward light, but also out sideways, which means that the light hits the ceiling and is reflected down and out into the room. Super smart and beautiful ceiling light.

Worth knowing about lighting in children's rooms

There are several ways to have lighting in the nursery. Most people have a ceiling light, which is your basic lighting. In addition, you can have cozy lighting and a night light to keep the room from getting too dark at bedtime. If your child is older and needs to do homework or perhaps immerse themselves in drawing, a desk lamp is also a good investment.

If you want a night light mounted on the wall by your child's bed, make sure you don't have direct lighting that will dazzle your child. If you have a small child, choose a lamp where the light source is hidden behind a shade, as you don't want your child to be able to reach the bulb. Choose a dimmable night light as it's nice to be able to control the brightness as needed.

You can also choose a floor lamp, for example from Mr Maria, as described above, so you have a lamp your child will love, which can be dimmed, has LED light, a lamp that does not get hot and is of course tested and approved.

And remember, it is very important that the lamp is approved! Many people buy imitations of e.g. Miffy and other cute children's lamps on various gadget sites and e.g. E-bay, and most of them are not made of an approved material, meaning the lamp can actually be toxic, it is not safety approved and can pose a fire hazard!

Of course, the price of the originals is a bit higher than a copy, but then you also have security, which is always important, especially when it comes to the little ones!
