Lamps for the living room - Read the guide and choose the right ones

There are many living room lamps to choose from and many questions to answer about placement, style, combinations of different lamps and prices. A good idea is to ask yourself first what your practical needs are. Next, you can decide what look you want your new living room lights to have - are you going for a certain style? Should it be the classic design lamps? -Or should they simply provide the light in the living room that you need? To help you on your way, I'll give you our best advice on lighting your living room so you can make the right choices when decorating with beautiful living room lamps.

Which wall lights are used in the living room?

There's always something trending and when it comes to living room wall lights, we see a clear trend towards large and flexible.

Lampe Gras is an incredibly popular brand when it comes to wall lights as they have a huge selection. You can get them for direct mounting or, as here, on a pole. In addition, they come in different lengths, colors, and you can choose how many kinks you want on the bar. Lampe Gras lights are incredibly flexible and therefore extremely useful in the living room as you can easily move your light around as needed.

The 214 wall light from Lampe Gras is one of the ones we see in many homes. I think it's because it's so incredibly flexible and because it fits in well with the Nordic style. You can adjust the lamp up and down, as well as move the rods and lamp head, so you have both useful and flexible lighting, but also a very stylish and beautiful wall light.\ The basic shape has no screws or welded joints.

Another popular wall light is the Mantis BS2 from Schottlander. Here you have a well-designed and different lamp that also fits in well with current trends and styles.

Mantis BS2 is part of an intriguing series of lamps with an elegant industrial look - a design that lasts. You might not expect it, but the Mantis series dates back to 1951 and despite its age, the entire series is more popular than ever.

Using counterweights, the lamp can be easily and elegantly adjusted in four different steps and, depending on the model, the head can be rotated between 180º and 360º and tilted.

Mantis is elegant and stylish and we see it more and more, especially because it has just become okay to move away from the traditional and I think that's why the big wall lights are on the rise. I'm not saying that small wall lights are new, on the contrary, we also see AJ wall, Caravaggio Read, the small wall lights from Lampe Gras and many more, but it's no secret that it has become fashionable to choose something big and beautiful that creates attention in the room.

A third popular wall light is 265 from Flos. Here you have a really nice and useful lamp that gives a good and direct light, which means it can easily be used over the coffee table.

The good thing about 265 is that it does not require a lot of wall space, as the bracket takes up very little space despite the size of the lamp and yet you have an incredibly flexible lamp that covers a very large light requirement. The long arm allows the lamp head to be steered with precision and turned exactly where needed, and the counterweight makes it easy and elegant.

Chair lamps, are the cheap ones a bad choice?

We are often asked if cheap lamps are a bad choice? But what is cheap and what is expensive? At Lampmasters.ie we only have quality lamps, but in different price ranges!

It also depends on what your needs are? Do you need one that can be dimmed or does it only need to light up? Should it have a power-saving built-in LED or does the light source not matter? Some people want the classic designer lamps, but they come in different price ranges, so there will always be a cheaper option.

It's a difficult question, but we can conclude that at Lampmasters.ie we have quality lamps in different price ranges and that it all depends on your needs and what you think is cheap or expensive.

Pendant lights and hanging lights, where are they placed in the living room?

Lighting is possibly the most important thing when it comes to decorating your living room as it has a huge impact on how you experience the room and you can easily change the atmosphere with light and beautiful lamps. Today, living room lamps have become beautiful design objects that decorate and create coziness and atmosphere in our interiors, so they don't just have to hang over a table - quite the opposite.

It can be like here, where an Etch pendant in Brass from Tom Dixon hangs over the sofa, but you can also hang a simple lamp over your sideboard or you can create a cozy corner with a corner table and armchair where you hang a pendant. This way you can divide your living room into small cozy "Stations".

In the second picture there are two Etch Mini pendants, also from Tom Dixon. As you can see, they hang in the middle of the wall - again a different installation, but it works and looks great. It's important to create coherence in your setup, as here, as they would otherwise hang out of place, but as part of a still life, it works really well and you get beautiful lighting.\ Etch pendants cast the most beautiful shadows in the room and are a great choice if you need cozy lighting. If you want a more direct light without shadows, you can choose a bulb to match. If you use Etch above the dining or coffee table, a bulb that casts light down onto the table would be ideal.

Cool living room lamps, what's hot right now?

What's hot right now is probably Nordic interior design and there is a wealth of smart, beautiful and functional living room lamps that complement that style. Since I've already touched on pendants and wall lights, I'm going to suggest the hottest table and floor lamps that you can use in your living room.

My first suggestion for your living room is the classic PH lamps. Here you see PH 3/2 Table and PH 3/2 Floor in two different homes, but the same style, with gray walls and minimalist and stylish interiors. Some might think they are lamps for the older generation, but no - they are incredibly popular regardless of age. I would even argue that they are just as popular with young people as they are with older people, as we are in a time where people want to spend more money on quality and design.

Both lamps are members of the 3-shade family, which today counts 20 lamps, including 3 for outdoor use. Poul Henningsen designed the 3-shade system as early as 1925-1926, when he collaborated with Louis Poulsen to design the first lamps for an exhibition in Paris. Throughout his life, Poul Henningesen tried to create the glare-free light and ended up with not just one lamp, but an entire system that has resulted in many beautiful PH lamps today. PH lamp numbers refer to the screen size - i.e. The PH 3½/2½ consists of a top shade of approx. 35 cm.

Another popular lamp series is AJ from Louis Poulsen. This series is an old favorite and is seen in many homes, especially for its classic and stylish look.

The AJ Table takes up little space and is therefore suitable for both sideboards and window sills. The shade can be adjusted up and down, allowing you to move the light depending on what you need it for. It can also be used in the office or bedroom, so if you buy an AJ lamp, you'll always have a place to put it.

Here you can see AJ Table and AJ Floor in my living room - you can easily have this series in the same room without it becoming too much, as the design is very clean and simple. However, I would say that AJ table is now in the office and PH 3/2 on the sideboard, but that's again because AJ just fits in so well in every room - so mine moves around from time to time.

It's also a good idea if you're looking for something new in your interior design. Having a different light makes a huge difference, so try swapping your lamps around if you need a change.

Here again you see an AJ floor. It's a really beautiful lamp and it just fits in well with all styles. Here it's the Nordic style again with the Kabe wall, beautiful gray Kähler candlesticks and a beautiful AC2 chair from Andersen Furniture. The style is consistent and AJ completes the look.

The Panthella MINI from Louis Poulsen is also a very popular living room lamp. It's relatively new, but already seen in many homes. Panthella MINI has a diameter of only 25cm, and with its small size, it can be placed in many places.

It is available in 11 different colors pink, red, purple, blue, orange, yellow, 2 shades of green as well as white, black and opal acrylic as pictured here.\ It also has built-in LED and 3-stage dimming, making it a super stylish and useful design lamp from Louis Poulsen.

Panthella MINI is made with a metal shade, which was Verner Panton's original idea for the lamp in 1971, but was not technologically feasible at the time.

This picture shows a Panthella Mini table lamp in white standing on a chest of drawers in front of a TV

The metal shade is white inside, which allows the light to reflect down onto the base and then up into the room - a super cozy lamp that fits in anywhere.

The Panthella MINI in opal stands out from the crowd, as the others are made with a metal shade. If you choose opal, the entire screen is illuminated, so it's a good idea to consider your lighting needs before choosing your new Panthella MINI.

When it comes to popular living room lamps, we can't forget the cute Flowerpot VP3, from &Tradition. It remains a bestseller that will probably never go out of style. VP3 is designed by Verner Panton and is also available as a pendant in two sizes, and of course in many beautiful colors. Our bestseller is definitely matte light gray and I wonder if the new matte black will also be a big success - it looks great. See the Flowerpot news here.

Use the Flowerpot in the living room, on the bedside table or in the children's room - the possibilities are endless with this beautiful design classic.
