Arne Jacobsen

Throughout his lifetime, Arne Jacobsen has collaborated closely with Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen.
After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Arne Jacobsen joined the office of the city architect in Copenhagen and opened his own firm just two years later.
Arne Jacobsen is a world-famous Danish modernist architect. He has designed numerous buildings in Denmark, Germany and England. His most famous projects include the National Bank of Denmark in Copenhagen (1971), SAS Royal Hotel & Terminal, Copenhagen (1960) and St. Catherine's College in Oxford (1963). Rumor has it that his fear of flying hampered him to such an extent that he didn't make it into the American architectural community.
As an architect, Arne Jacobsen had a strong decision-making ability, which allowed him to influence both the design of the buildings and most of the details.

Prestigious designs
Over the years he has ventured into different areas related to his work such as light fixtures, wristwatches, furniture, cutlery, door handles, toiletries and wallpaper patterns. In addition, the two chair designs, Ægget and Svanen, both designed as part of a project for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, have become world famous. Throughout his life, he received numerous prestigious awards both in Denmark and abroad.
He was a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture for 11 years, during which time he influenced an entire generation of Danish architects. Each architect later developed their own architectural language based on the same rationale and minimalist expression.
The world-renowned AJ lamps
AJ floor lamp, AJ table lamp and AJ wall lamp are almost synonymous with Arne Jacobsen's approach to design simplicity. The lamps were designed in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and were part of the overall design concept for the hotel. Much of the hotel has become famous design icons, and in lighting, AJ lamps in particular have become world-famous. On the 50th anniversary of the launch of the AJ family, 5 new lamp colors have been introduced. The five new colors are carefully selected according to Arne Jacobsen's concepts.
