Sofie Refer is a renowned Danish lighting designer who started her first lighting company Refer + Staer in Copenhagen in 2003, two years after her international breakthrough back in 2001 when she won a Good Design Award at the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for her Mega Bulb lamp - and this has since become one of her most popular designs, which today is also produced in different models by the well-known Danish design company &Tradition.
Sofie Refer's designs are known for being deeply rooted in the Scandinavian design tradition and inspired by Nordic light. Refer also considers respect for nature and the ability to see beauty in simplicity as two of the most fundamental values in any design tradition. Furthermore, Refer believes that light is the most essential and powerful aspect of any environment and is driven by a passion for finding new ways to play with light. She uses the latest technology to create her simple and streamlined designs with a clean and sensuous expression and an extravagant touch.
In 2017, Sofie Refer founded Danish Nuura in collaboration with Nadia Lassen and Peter Østerberg with the aim of creating unique, sensuous and aesthetic lighting sources that would reflect the abundance and joy found in Nordic nature. This has resulted in a range of unique designs for every purpose in both private and public spaces, including the Miira, Blossi, Liila, Anoli and Apiales lighting collections. So with a Sofie Refer lamp or other Nuura lighting, you get both practical lighting sources that also function as decorative interior design elements that will undoubtedly catch the eye and beautifully complete the rest of the decor.
