The AJ lamp series was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Blu). The lamp was part of the overall design concept for the hotel. Several of the hotel's products have become design icons, and in lighting, the AJ lamps in particular have become world-famous. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the AJ family, 5 new color variants have been introduced. The new lamp colors are carefully selected according to an updated Arne Jacobsen color concept. Classic AJ table lamp, AJ floor lamp and AJ wall lamp, known and loved for over 50 years! ... Choose between the colors Red, Petroleum, Sand, Yellow Green, Teal, Graphite Grey, White and Black. The beautiful AJ pendant is probably a bit overlooked in the AJ context. AJ Royal Pendant has a clean and geometric hemispherical shape with fine lighting properties. The luminaire housing provides a soft light that also penetrates through the slats of the AJ Royal Pendant.
AJ table lamp, AJ floor lamp, AJ wall lamp and AJ pendant were designed for the SAS Royal hotel in Copenhagen and were first presented at the hotel's opening in 1960. It was the very first skyscraper in Copenhagen at the time, and the hotel itself was a total work of art. Everything was simply designed by Arne Jacobsen from scratch, from the cutlery in the restaurant to the facade of the striking building. World-famous design icons include the Swan and Egg chairs, which, like the lamps, were also shown here for the very first time.
For the period, the "AJ lamp" was made in a rigorous design, and Arne Jacobsen actually thought it all the way through when naming the lamp. Instead of long and conceptual names, he cut to the bone and simply called them AJ table, AJ floor, AJ wall and AJ royal. Brilliantly simple, expressive and often copied by other brands and lamp series since then.
In fact, room 606 of the hotel is still intact in its original style and has since been lovingly restored. Arne Jacobsen drew his original inspiration from Lever House in New York. The hotel was Copenhagen's first modernist building, giving the city an international flavor and elevating Arne Jacobsen to the international design super league.
Louis Poulsen produces the popular AJ lamps and distributes them through several exclusive lamp retailers. Louis Poulsen has many great designers in its portfolio, among the most important are Poul Henningsen and Verner Panton, who are in the same league as Arne Jacobsen.
