GUBI introduces Bestlite in Limited Edition
)
In 1930, designer Robert Dudley Best introduced the first lamp in the Bestlite series. The lamp can therefore celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2020 and GUBI is therefore launching a Limited Edition Bestlite BL90 series. Only 300 of each model will be produced in nickel. Each lamp is certified with its own number to make each lamp unique. It also has a small metal plate with the 90th anniversary logo engraved on it.
The entire Bestlite lamp collection consists of many different lamps, so there is always a lamp to suit your lighting needs. In the BL90 series you will find the four most popular lights; BL1 Table lamp, BL3 Floor lamp, BL5 and BL7 wall lights in a stylish nickel finish.
Bestlite Table Lamp - BL1
Bestlite BL1 Table Lamp was the first Bestlite lamp. A functional lamp with a clear focus on flexibility; an adjustable height, a tilting arm and a lampshade that can be rotated 360 degrees. With a height of 51-84 centimeters (depending on the setting), the lamp is the perfect size for a desk lamp.
Bestlite Floor Lamp - BL3
Based on the table lamp, the Bestlite BL3 Floor Lamp is designed with the same flexible features - tiltable arm, adjustable height and a rotatable shade. The lamp switch here is placed on the cord by the floor, so the lamp is easily disconnected with the foot. This means you don't have to bend down every time you turn the light on or off. Place it by the sofa group or your favorite reading corner where it provides a comfortable and flexible reading light.
Bestlite Wall Lights - BL5 and BL7
The same adjustable shade is used for Bestlite BL5 and BL7 wall lights. The BL5 wall light even has the adjustable arm, whereas the BL7 is a simpler version of the lamp. Whichever model you prefer, it's perfect as a night light. For the same reason, wall lights are especially popular in the hospitality industry. The lamp is also ideal for inviting lighting in the hallway or corridor.

Good design, high functionality and a good story
The beautiful design has proved its worth as a classic 90 years on. The lamp compliments today's interior design as it did 90 years ago. Not only because of its timeless design, but also its function.
In the late 1920s, English designer Robert Dudley Best, went to Germany to study. Here he became incredibly enthusiastic about the Bauhaus school and the whole Bauhaus style that had emerged throughout the 20s. His interest in the design language and basic principles of Bauhaus was reinforced when he later traveled to France. He found his inspiration for the Bestlite lamp at the Paris World Fair, where Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier were represented, among others.
When Robert returned home with the first sketches, he managed to convince his father to produce the lamps in the family company; Best and Lloyd. Initially, the lamp was not sold to private homes as expected. Instead, they were bought for car repair shops and the Royal Air Force's technical department, where the functionality of the lamp was highly valued.
However, a few of the lamps ended up on architects' desks, leading to an article in The Architects Journal, where the lamp was named The first British Bauhaus production. Suddenly everyone wanted the lamp! The then Prime Minister Winston Churchill personally chose the Bestlite Table Lamp for his desk. The story goes that he even took the lamp with him on his countless trips around the world. This was the big breakthrough for the Bestlite lamp, loved by architects, designers and design lovers alike, and today it is considered a true classic.
From British designer to Danish Gubi
The owner of Gubi, Jacob Gubi, first saw the Bestlite lamp with his father in Copenhagen. His father had previously seen the beautiful lamp in a shoe store and they had both gone over to look at it. They could both see that it had something special about it. They traveled to Birmingham and visited the Dudley Best family, where they saw how the fine lamps were produced. In the old production halls, they experienced a bit of a culture shock and were fascinated by the authentic surroundings; old tools everywhere, while everything exuded tradition and craftsmanship.
Best and Lloyd were responsible for the production of the lamps until 2003, when Gubi bought the rights to Bestlite.\ Gubi tends to tell a story through their products - every lamp or piece of furniture has a unique story; which is why the Bestlite lamp fits perfectly into their DNA.
