The PH 2/2 Luna is the 2023 Limited Edition from Louis Poulsen. Originally designed by Poul Henningsen as a bedside table lamp, the lamp can be characterized by its curved frame and beautiful details. The lamp uses the well-known and beloved three-shade system that Poul Henningsen invented back in 1926. The brushed brass beautifully compliments the three mouth-blown shades and the beautiful body of the lamp that embraces the light creates a wonderful and functional lighting object.\ Originally, the model was smaller than it is today - only 23 cm tall - but with the re-release, Louis Poulsen enlarges the figure to 32 cm. Both updates make the lamp more versatile for the modern home.

As mentioned, the lamp was originally intended as a bedside table lamp, but can easily be used elsewhere. The PH 2/2 Luna is wonderful on a sideboard as a decorative piece in the living room - but also in the deep windowsill and on the home office desk.

The new PH Limited Editions exude instant warmth, coziness and undoubted elegance thanks to the opal glass and brass, which due to its unpolished finish takes on a natural patina over the years, only making the lamps even more beautiful and unique with time. However, if you want to maintain the original finish, you can gently polish the brass.

Common to both new Limited Editions is also the refined and exclusive touch that Poul Henningsen's engraved signature gives them. Likewise, the fact that the lamps are only available for a limited time adds to their indisputable exclusivity and makes them coveted collector's items.

Limited Edition 2019 - PH 3/2 Amber glass Floor Lamp "The Water Pump"

Louis Poulsen is known for their beautiful lamps in classic design. In close collaboration with renowned designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton and not least Poul Henningsen, they have produced unique lamps that are not only pleasing to the eye but also create beautiful light.

Every fall, Louis Poulsen pays tribute to Poul Henningsen's genius for shaping light by producing an extraordinary PH lamp based on one of his existing designs. These include limited editions of the PH 3/2 table lamp and the popular PH Artichoke (HP Koglen). In 2019, Louis Poulsen will launch an exclusive Limited Edition of his unique PH 3/2 floor lamp - better known as the "Water Pump". The new variant has shades in mouth-blown amber glass that accentuates the organic shapes of the shade and the beautiful brass frame.

The water pump was developed during the war and belongs to the group of lamps that "survived" the wartime scarcity of materials and cuts to Louis Poulsen's large selection of PH lamps. Because of the tilting arm that can tilt up and down, the reading lamp was quickly given the name "Water Pump Lamp", which is the name we know it by today.\ The earlier model of the Water Pump from the early 1940s has the switch mounted on the rocker arm, while later it was mounted on the cord. Today, the switch is placed at the end of the rocker arm, where Poul Henningsen's initials are beautifully engraved in the switch.

To emphasize the authenticity of the lamp and create a sophisticated look, the base, stand and arm are made of untreated brass. The warm color gives an intimate and cozy feel to the room and goes hand in hand with modern interior design, where we love the metallic shades. Over time, the untreated surface will acquire a natural patina and each lamp will achieve a unique expression.

The world-famous PH lamp fits perfectly into the current trend of decorating your home with distinctive design lamps with history. There is a lot of attention paid to design classics in the Scandinavian style, where "Danish Modern" has become a widespread trend.

PH 3/2 Table lamps - Limited Edition 2018

Long-established lighting company Louis Poulsen launched a Limited Edition PH 3/2 table lamp in 2018. The table lamp was created by the renowned and influential architect Poul Henningsen. Throughout his life, he was dedicated to shaping lighting and creating "the good light". His designs are known and loved all over the world - now also in the exclusive material combination; Three shades are made of mouth-blown amber Italian glass while the frame is in light brushed brass.

The switch is built-in and placed at the bottom of the brass frame - just above the engraving of Poul Henningsen's initials. A location that can be traced back to the PH table lamps of the 1920s. The original detail, thoughtful design and exclusive material make the Limited Edition table lamp a timeless piece that instantly adds a warm elegance to the room.

PH 3½-3 Pendant from Louis Poulsen in Limited edition 2017

The exclusive PH 3½-3 limited edition pendant with amber glass and brass frame was launched by Louis Poulsen as a tribute to Poul Henningsen's ingenious play with light. The pendant is very true to the original design from the 1920s, when Poul Henningsen designed the legendary three-shade principle. We're back in 1926, and it was already introduced in the late 1920s with colored glass. The brass pendant design was originally introduced in 1928.

The warm amber color and gloss on the outside of the shades, combined with the sandblasted matte underside, gives a very soft light with ideal diffusion. When the pendant is switched off, it continues to play a dynamic role as its glossy surface reflects its surroundings. The brushed brass pendant is untreated, so it will form a unique and natural patina over time unless polished. The Italian mouth-blown three-layer glass in the classic amber shade emphasizes the pendant's exceptionally warm glow and human expression. Each lamp is completely unique and as much a work of art as real functional lighting.

Amber glass shades and brass

When Louis Poulsen and Poul Henningsen first introduced mouth-blown colored glass in the late 1920s, it was to attract new customers. Back then, the emphasis was on naturally warm colors, with striking expressions and beautiful craftsmanship. Glass screens have the advantage of letting some of the light shine through, directing it downwards, upwards and outwards at the same time. This also contributes to the overall lighting in the room and to the cozy atmosphere.\ We continue to see a trend of bringing golden colors into Scandinavian interior design, with a particular focus on shades of yellow - from light yellow to dark yellow shades. The amber shades fit perfectly into these trends, where the color is incredibly inviting and gives a warm and calm look. The golden light from the amber-colored screens is most reminiscent of candlelight - a mood light that Poul Henningsen was very keen to recreate in the electric light to meet human needs.

The first light philosophy - The thoughts behind the iconic PH lamp In 1907, Danish designer, architect, writer and cultural critic Poul Henningsen saw electric light for the first time. By 1920, half of all Danish households had electric light, but he found that the electric bulb cast an impossible light - either the light was too bright or the screen swallowed most of the light. He therefore worked to develop a lampshade that sent light into the room at its full strength, without glare, and dedicated most of his life to taming and refining the phenomenon."It seems as if the brightnesses that techniques in recent years have brought us for cheap money have been obtained at the expense of the quality, beauty and truth of light."- Poul Henningsen.* "Think rather of the old days, how much fine and meticulous work they could make - filigree workers, watchmakers, etc, by the light of a single flame."

According to Poul Henningsen, the technicians had a dream of turning night into day - a dream that according to him was both unartistic and wrong, as man was unable to do without the rhythm of the day.*"On a winter day, where dusk and dawn almost meet in the middle of the day, you can have the light on around the clock - but of course it should not be a fluorescent lamp, which is related to the light on a summer day at noon. It was thoughts like these that gave Poul Henningsen the desire to design a lamp that reduced the uncomfortable glare and improved the electric light for human needs.

Poul Henningsen and Louis Poulsen

Poul Henningsen worked over several years to construct the PH lamp. He experimented with his first slatted ball lamp in 1921 and in the same year designed the PH street lamp, which became known as the "Slotsholmslygten". A few years later, his newfound experience gave him access to an exhibition of modern crafts in Paris. This was due to his lampshades, which were designed to distribute the direction and reflection of light rays very precisely.

This is when lamp manufacturer Louis Poulsen recognized Poul Henningsen's design and commissioned him to produce ten different lamps for the exhibition. The lamps were exhibited under the name "Systéme PH" and won top awards in all six lighting fixture classes. Since then, the collaboration has led to many great design classics. For example Poul Henningsen Koglen, PH5 and not least PH Snowball.

Based on his own experience and new calculations of light reflection, Poul Henningsen developed a lamp with 3 curved shades in 1926 - the PH lamp! The lamp was designed so that there was the same angle between the screen and the light rays. That way, the direct light did not escape, but instead reflected in the direction you wanted. He described the screens as a plate, a bowl and a cup in the proportions 4:2:1. Since then, Louis Poulsen has presented hundreds of different PH lamps, from chandeliers to floor, wall, ceiling, and table lamps. All built on the same simple wooden screen system.
