"Imagine that something so simple can be so sophisticated and have so much attitude," Studio F. A. Porsche and LIGHT-POINT themselves write about the lamps they have created together - and we share the amazement.
Two giants in their respective fields have put their heads together and the result is some of the finest design art in lighting. Austrian Studio F. A. Porsche is known for their elegant designs in everything from superyachts to skyscrapers and from ski lifts to vacuum cleaners, and Danish LIGHT-POINT is known for their always innovative lamps that have characterized the international lighting market since 1995.
Porsche, Ferry, Butzi. Three generations of the Ferdinand Porsche clan, all of whom have influenced the world as we know it today. If you know anything about cars, Porsche will sound familiar - and yes, this is the family we're dealing with here.
Ferdinand Porsche senior (1875-1951) was an Austrian-born automotive engineer known for founding Porsche AG - and for designing the VW Beetle, Mercedes-Benz SS/SSK and the first Lohner-Porsche hybrid car, as well as the Panzer VIII Maus tank and Elefant tank.
The second generation of Ferdinand Porsche (1909 - 1998), also known as Ferry Porsche, was also an automotive engineer, following in his father's footsteps. After the war, while Porsche senior was imprisoned in France, Ferry Porsche ran the family business and left his mark on the Porsche brand as we know it today. He took over the business from his father and nailed the manufacturer's sports and racing abilities with seven-inch nails; he made sure Porsche participated in Le Mans, Corsica Rally and Monte Carlo Rally, among others. In 1966, Ferry Porsche celebrated its 100,000th car: never before in history had a sports car manufacturer achieved so much sales success.
Butzi, whose civil name was Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, was the third generation to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather - because although he worked at Porsche, he was much more interested in the aesthetic than he was in the technical. But that didn't stop him from working in the family business in his early years - and it didn't stop him from designing the most recognizable Porsche ever: the Porsche 911.
What's even more impressive is that he was only in his 20s when he designed the iconic car that is still in production today and was voted the fifth most influential car of the century by Car of the Century - with his grandfather's VW Beetle coming in fourth. Butzi left Porsche in 1972 and founded Studio F. A. Porsche, a design consultancy that has designed everything from watches for the UN army to superyachts, skyscrapers, vacuum cleaners and pens.
Although Butzi left us in 2012, Studio F. A. Porsche is still built around Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's approach to design. "Design is not fashion," he always said, and he believed that we all want to leave something to be remembered for. Therefore, it was always important for him to create designs that prioritize function. It is said that Butzi revolutionized how engineers and designers can work together.
25 years of experience, a huge and broad portfolio, and a range available in stores in over 50 different countries. Ronni Gol is no novice when it comes to lighting - and since he founded LIGHT-POINT, the Danish company has been on an unparalleled journey of innovation and aesthetics.
LIGHT-POINT is known for functionality and a design that exists around a purpose and function - and they are known for a build quality that ensures LIGHT-POINT products last for years. That's why LIGHT-POINT is actually more like Butzi's father and grandfather's company than you might think.
Expertise and experience in lamp design makes LIGHT-POINT the perfect partner for the design company from Austria, making the Studio F. A. Porsche and LIGHT-POINT collaboration one of the most exciting things to come out this year.
