How does Philips Hue work?

Philips Hue is the latest in lighting. There are almost no limits to what these bulbs and lamps can be paired with and the atmosphere they can create in the rooms they are placed in. Just as some people are into computers, home decor and knick-knacks, Philips Hue is the new kind of lighting technology hobby. Here you can synchronize the light with your TV and music to match the sound. You can choose between color temperatures via white ambience or 16 million colors via color ambience and even connect up to 50 Hue bulbs or 12 Hue lamps to a starter kit. Hue products are super easy to use and easy to expand without lengthy installations. You can set the lights to turn off when you leave home and turn on again when you are a few meters away. You can dim them and have multiple colors running at the same time. You can mix both 'Hue white' and 'Hue color' and control them all with your smartphone. You can play with color tones and create the perfect mood lighting, and the bulbs are even available in many different socket types.

Philips Hue starter kit - what is a starter kit?

With the purchase of a Philips Hue White Ambience starter kit you get two E27 bulbs, a dimmer that can be used inside the home and a bridge, which is the device that connects to your WiFi so you can communicate between your smart device and the bulbs/lights. The starter kit can also be purchased without the dimmer if you prefer to use your smartphone only. The bulbs contain all types of white colors, ranging from a nice warm white for cozy lighting to colder task lighting.

With the Philips Hue White/Color-starter kit, in addition to the bridge and dimmer, you get two bulbs that, in addition to ambience, can be adjusted in 16 million different colors that you can switch between and use interchangeably.

Philips Hue products can be placed anywhere in the home. For example, you can use a Philips Hue light strip at the staircase or under your furniture to create a unique lighting expression in your home. You can also use a smaller bulb with a GU10 socket, which fits perfectly in a Philips Hue spotlight that can also be dimmed wirelessly according to your needs and mood.

You can also take advantage of bulbs with Bluetooth technology so you can operate them instantly in a quick, easy and efficient way - see our full range of Philips Hue Bluetooth bulbs here. You can also use a Philips Hue outdoor lamp, which you can also connect to your Bridge, to bring the great lighting and atmosphere to your outdoor spaces.

You can also place a Motion sensor above the garage or in a walkway so that your smart lighting automatically turns on when motion is detected, so you don't have to fumble around in the dark. This battery-powered Hue Motion sensor can be easily installed by yourself using a magnetic bracket or a single screw, and can be installed anywhere in any home without the hassle and hassle of wiring. You can also use your Hue app to adjust your motion sensor while customizing your settings for specific times of day.

What are Philips Hue light strips?

If you're one of those people who love to play with light and create a lot of fun and adventure in different rooms, you can also get a light strip plus starter kit. These light strips are great if you want to create some cool effects on the stairs, in the glass cabinet or maybe behind your TV. You can change lengths and colors, and they won't leave any scratches or holes as they are glued in place. They are therefore not fitted with screws or similar that make unsightly holes and visible marks. If you choose to move your light strips somewhere else, there is nothing to reveal where they were before.

Kelvin and lumens

Lumens is what you measure an LED bulb in. This loosely translates to the wattage of a halogen bulb. For example, 140 lumens corresponds to 15 watts and 1,520 lumens to 100 watts.

You can also measure kelvin on a light bulb. It is the heat of the color the light emits. A warm light bulb is between 2700-3300 kelvin, a neutral bulb is between 3500-4000 kelvin and a cool colored bulb is between 4000-5000 kelvin. So the warmer the light you want, the lower the kelvin it should be.

Philips Hue LED - choose the right one!

All Philips Hue products are LED. This means that they are very energy efficient, but they can also be dimmed. It's not a given that LED bulbs and lamps are dimmable, but it's always the case with Philips Hue products.
