Born: 1972.\ Famous works: Caravaggio lamp, Mingus pendant, Mondrian lamp, Brancusi pendant, Blossom vase, Micado table and Hochacht ladder.\ Education: Designer from the Danish School of Design.
Cecilie Manz was born in the Odsherred region of Denmark. As the child of parents involved in art and design, design has always been a natural part of her life. She chose design as her life when she started studying at the Danish Design School in 1992. Her keen interest in function and conceptualization took her further as an exchange student to Helsinki, where she attended the Finnish University of Art and Design.
In 1998, a year after graduating from the Danish Design School, she started her own studio, Manz Lab, where she designed furniture, glass, lamps and related products primarily for the home. In 2005 she joined Holmegaard Glassworks as a designer.
Cecilie Manz has a strong sense of functionality and insists on quality. She has designed the Caravaggio lamps for Fritz Hansen. Manz has already exhibited all over the world and is permanently represented in exhibitions by MOMA and Danish Design Center. She has lectured and won several important awards for her conceptual design. Her designs are at once sensuous, captivating and very useful. The design opens our senses to the everyday things we often interact with without a second thought. For example, The Clothes Tree from 2000 (a tree to hang your clothes on) or Hochacht from 1999 (a ladder to sit on). Cecilie Manz's purpose is not just to create a new product, but to get to the root cause and function of the product itself.
"I work with things that matter to me. My general idea is to always have a clear argument, to legitimize the designs that I make. Function is crucial and if I can't formulate a good reason for a new product, it's better not to do it."
Here you'll find lamps and home accessories by Cecilie Manz in collaboration with Fritz Hansen.
