Born: 1893.\ Death: 1974.\ Famous works: KAISER idell™ lamps.\ Education: Silversmith.
Christian Dell was a German designer with an intriguing background as a silversmith, which helps explain the attention to detail found in his work. He worked as a foreman at the Bauhaus metal workshop in Weimar from 1922 through 1925. Here Dell pioneered a highly innovative and groundbreaking design style. The Bauhaus style has its own unique place in 20th century cultural history, encompassing architecture, design, art and new media. Bauhaus was one of the first schools of design and brought together many of the most outstanding architects and artists of the time.
In the time after the 1926 metal workshop, Dell designed light sources and often for the lamp factory Gebr. The Kaiser & Co. table lamp model 6631 Luxus was shown for the first time in 1936 in the first catalog published that year. This lamp quickly became the undisputed leader of the KAISER idell™ series, which both then and even today stands as the epitome of the finest in German design, spiced up in the most elegant way with exquisite material selection and precision engineering. For the curious, the first part of the name "KAISER" refers to the original manufacturer of the lamp, and "idell" refers to idea and to Dell, the designer's surname.
Christian Dell is almost synonymous with the Bauhaus movement, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. This is marked by Fritz Hansen with a special edition of its most popular lamp KAISER idell™ 6631-T in brass. The special edition features a brass frame that beautifully complements the iconic lampshade. With a vintage-inspired look, Christian Dell's world-renowned design is elevated to new heights and possibly even more relevant in modern interior design. The brass is untreated and will patina over time, giving each special edition a unique look.
