In 1984 he received a diploma in design from the Polytecnico in Milan, and in 1986 he graduated in architecture from the same place.
From 1986 to 1991, he was a partner at Studio De Lucchi and was project manager for various companies. He was responsible for the historical part of the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands together with Alessandro Mendini, and he designed the stand for the Milan Furniture Fair and show room in New York.
From 1991 until now, he is part of the artistic direction of Kartell and designs their stands at den Salone del Mobile (Milan), Laeln Messe (Cologne) and ICFF (New York). Since 1992, he has collaborated with Foscarini Murano, designing the lamps Orbital from 1992, Dolmen from 1996, Bit from 1993 and Supernova from 2001.
One of Laviani's most popular lights is the shiny Cindy table lamp. The teardrop base is beautifully combined with a conical shade, and the simple silhouette draws attention to itself with the shiny chrome-like finish that catches the eye in any home.
Thanks to Kartell's pioneering work with plastic, which makes the material appear noble and luxurious, the lamp has an extremely stylish appearance. The unique lamp provides a cozy light and a modern twist to any interior design.
