Joan Gaspar was born in 1966 in Barcelona. This is where he grew up, and he got his first taste of designing and creating lamps when he started working at VAPRO SA in 1988. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide range of design companies, including Roca, Resol, Made Design and not least Marset. Although he has constantly evolved his design style, he has remained true to his minimalist origins.
The collaboration between Joan Gaspar and Marset began in 1996, where he has since developed new products and found new product directions for the company. For decades, the company has been known for being more than just an average lighting company, but an innovative design company with exclusive products of exquisite quality. Something Joan Gaspar has always appreciated when it comes to lighting and design.
Since 1998, Joan Gaspar has taught materials and technology applied to industrial design at Elisava design school in Barcelona. In 2002, he opened a professional design studio in Barcelona, working with different companies on new product concepts. He was very interested in showing the process from idea to finished product and how to achieve the desired result.
Joan Gasper has several design awards under her belt. Among other things, he was awarded Interior Design's Best of Year 2017 for his Jaima collection; an outdoor lamp series where he focused on creating a lampshade for outdoor use. It was made from PVC-coated polyester fabric to preserve the look and quality of indoor lighting.
