Marc Sadler was born in Austria in 1946 but is a French citizen. He has lived and worked for many years in Europe, North America and Asia, but currently lives in Milan where he is a consultant for furniture, sporting goods and lighting companies. In all aspects of his career, he experiments with plastic, which often forms a central part of his projects.
In the late 1960s, he already had a strong curiosity for the design profession and in 1968 he graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, the school of art and design in Paris.
In the early 1970s, he perfected the first thermoplastic ski boot, which was later marketed by the Italian company Caber (later known as Lotto). This marked the start of a long and fruitful collaboration that led to the patenting of the symmetrical shell ski boot, which for many years was the best-selling ski boot in the world.
It was this project that led to close cooperation with the most important multinational sports companies in the US, Asia and Europe. Sadler's work in this industry gave him the experience that would later enable him to bring innovative thinking to more traditional fields.
In the late 1990s, Marc Sadler started designing lamps and the collaboration with Foscarini was soon established. The most famous Foscarini lamp design from Marc Sadler is the beautiful Twiggy lamp, which was launched in 2006. This lamp is a bestseller and is available in many versions.
Marc Sadler's work has won many international design awards over the years. For example, the Mite lamp from Foscarini is part of the design collection at the Beaubourg Museum in Paris.
