Born: 1969 (Martin Kechayas) and 1981 (Christian Noergaard).\ Known works: Material lamp.\ Education: Furniture designer (Martin Kechayas) and industrial designer (Christian Noergaard).
Original design has nothing to do with the price of the product, but everything to do with the skill of its creator. This very specific no-nonsense approach has been an important element in the duo Noergaard & Kechayas' journey towards becoming a household name in modern Danish design. The reflective Noergaard and the forward-thinking Kechayas are each other's synergy-creating opposites, and a dynamic collaboration was created that has given us the Material series. The material lamps take the form of anything from marble to terracotta or an elephant that looks like a chair or was it the other way around? With these guys, you can't be sure.
Somewhat uniquely, we've merged the dynamic duo into one, but as these two creative gentlemen are synonymous with symbiotic design, it made perfect sense.
Martin Kechayas, born in Copenhagen in 1969 with an interesting background as half Danish and half Greek, brings a Gung Ho attitude and a quirky approach to the duo. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in furniture design from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.
Christian Noergaard was born in Helsingør in 1981. He has lived and studied in Denmark, the UK and Canada, which has given him a nice breadth of perspective on what we can expect from form and function. In 2008, he graduated with a degree in industrial design from the Danish Design School in Copenhagen.
