Known works: Minneapolis lamp, FM 1954 lamp and FM 2014 lamp.
The year is 1954. Frank Sinatra is heavy on the gramophones worldwide, West Germany is offered NATO membership, and Knud Friis and Elmar Moltke found their legendary architecture firm Friis & Moltke. Today, the Aarhus-based company is behind a string of public and private buildings from Skjern to Vordingborg, and from Ankara in Turkey to Nuuk in Greenland, and since their founding, they have cemented themselves as one of the biggest influences on Danish and international design and architecture. Today, Friis & Moltke is owned and managed by eight partners and designs everything from colossal public buildings to small, elegant lamps.

Respecting sustainability - both literally and figuratively - runs deep for the Aarhus-based studio. Since the company broke ground in 1954, it has been important for Friis & Moltke to build business around values of development, dialog and innovation. Today, their work is always with the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals in mind - and it is important to maintain a focus on sustainability in their designs for both the physical and social environment.
Minneapolis was born in 1984. Friis and Moltke designed it for the Scanticon Hotel and Conference Center, located in the midwestern city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The lamp needed to embrace the Scandinavian style and showcase the Danish design tradition to the many international guests visiting the hotel and conference center. The lamp's minimalist expression creates an exciting silhouette and the wide shade ensures a pleasant light, making the lamp head ideal as a wall lamp, floor lamp, table lamp and pendant. In the end, Friis & Moltke created a complete series of different lamp types in the same family, available in both white and black. Today, Frandsen publishes the lamp, so you can rest assured that the lamps are produced in the highest quality.
