Bernard Schottlander was born in Germany, specifically in Mainz in 1924 and moved to England in 1939. After serving with the British army in India, he learned welding techniques and then attended Leeds College of Art, followed by the Anglo-French art centre in St John's Wood on a scholarship.
The Mantis series was designed in 1951, but despite its long history, the lamp still fits perfectly into both modern and classic homes. Today, the lamp is produced by DCW for Schottlander. Depending on the model, the head can be rotated between 180º and 360º and tilted. The black head of the Mantis BS2 Floor Lamp can be combined with either a black or grey body.
The series consists of floor lamps, table lamps and ceiling lights.
This wall light has a switch but is made to be mounted directly in the wall socket.
