The AJ wall lamp was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (now the Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen) and made up part of the complete design for the hotel. More than one of the hotel’s products have since achieved status as design icons and among the lighting products, the AJ lamps are internationally renowned.
In connection with the 60-year-anniversary of Arne Jacobsen’s iconic design, Louis Poulsen has launched a new and dynamic colour palette for the popular AJ table, floor and wall lamps.
Colours can affect us physically and stimulate our senses. Colours can be used to separate, organise, and feel things. Aside from black, white and pale petroleum, the new collection consists of seven colours: dark green, yellow ochre, rusty red, midnight blue, aubergine and two shades of grey. Colours are closely linked to Arne Jacobsen’s own universe and are chosen based on how they best highlight the essence of the AJ lamp.
User-friendly, comfortable, durable, and usable lighting.
The AJ wall lamp is equipped with a fixture head with a characteristic asymmetric shape, which is essential to the fixture’s light qualities. The fixture head on the AJ wall lamp can be tilted and turned 60 degrees from side-to-side. With its unique look, the lamp is a modern classic.
A completely unique profile that is easily recognisable around the world with roots all the way back to 1960, when the SAS Royal Hotel was launched as a complete design that has since achieved cult status.
