Ingo Maurer originally designed Bibibibi when he was in need of a unique weeding gift, but it didn’t take long for this quirky table lamp to gain popularity, resulting in the release of a limited collection. The lamp ended up being integrated into the brand’s permanent collection, where it has been available for purchase for around 30 years.
As a further twist to the story, we might as well add that the lamp’s original legs came from a plastic stork Maurer found at Woolworths. The complete birds were sold out and, reluctant salesperson tried to stop him from buying just a pair of legs because they didn’t feel comfortable selling an incomplete product. The newly purchased stork legs were then paired with a porcelain shade, the white interior of which reflected the light out underneath the lamp. The rest is history.
The Bibibibi table lamp is delivered with an opalised 60W bulb, but it’s possible to upgrade to an LED solution to ensure minimal consumption.
These lamps have to be special-ordered as they’re fabricated in limited runs - expect a delivery time of 3-4 weeks.
