It can be a bit of a mission to figure out our large selection of bulbs. What bulb should you choose? What’s the light like, and when is it best to use what? We’re going to map it all out for you, so it’ll be easier to navigate the bulb market in the future.
The connector:
Look at the kind of connector as well as its dimensions to ensure that the bulb fits your lamp.
About dimmable bulbs:
Check that the bulb is dimmable—this will be highlighted on the packaging. Regular halogen bulbs are always dimmable.
Colour rendering:
This refers to the ability of the bulb to reproduce colours faithfully. Choose a bulb with a good colour rendering index (i.e. an Ra value of at least 90) when the placement of the lamp makes colour rendering an important factor.
Light colour:
Warm light of 2,700-3,300 Kelvin is similar to the light of an incandescent bulb. 3,300-4,000 Kelvin create a neutral light, while 4,000 Kelvin and above create a cool light. Cool light is a bad solution for private homes.
That said, 2,500-2,700 Kelvin is the ideal light for relaxing. 4,000-4,500 Kelvin is the ideal light for working, and 6,000 Kelvin or more is good for warding off seasonal depression, or if you just need extra energy.
