Model 548 Table Lamp was designed in 1951, in connection with a study in balance and the reflection of the light through a lampshade, which is a recurring theme in Gino Sarfatti’s designs. The adjustable spotlight angled towards the lampshade gives Model 548 a light that is reflected in the lampshade, as well as an incredibly sophisticated and diffuse effect.
The exclusive table lamp has an elegant methacrylate lampshade, which is stronger and lighter than glass, while the spotlight is white-lacquered aluminium. The large base at the bottom of the lamp serves as a counterweight to the lampshade and the spotlight, creating a lovely balance between the different elements.
In the 2013 relaunch, the original incandescent bulb was replaced with an LED light source, and the switch underneath the light source was swapped for an optical dimmer that makes the lamp even easier to use.
