To celebrate Poul Henningsen’s 120th birthday on 9 September 2014, Louis Poulsen launched a new product – the PH 3½-3 pendant.

The PH 3½-3 pendant was developed using Poul Henningsen’s original drawings from the late 20s – early 30s, using his well-known three-shade system as a starting point.
The lamp is manufactured using metal shades in the colours green, yellow, red and white. The mounting fixture is silky matte brown with a copper finish. All colours are from the Poul Henningsen colour universe. And just like the man himself, the lamps are colourful!
As an added detail, all the shades have a white-lacquered rolled edge that helps underscore the well-known profile of the three-shade lamp. This creates a lovely optical symmetry.
The shades are pressed at Louis Poulsen’s factory in Vejen, Denamrk. This process is carried out by Louis Poulsen’s own presses - not everyone can create a masterpiece.
Although the design is more than 80 years old the lamp is simultaneously modern and classic, making it well-suited for a wide variety of interior design environments. It is considered a charming, rustic, functional and unpretentious lamp. But it is so much more than that.
The PH 3½-3 pendant is a piece of Danish design history in the lighting industry. It provides a beautifully functional and decorative light and gives any interior an additional lift just by existing, both when it is on and when it is off. It is lovely on its own as well as in a cluster.
Poul Henningsen’s design is timeless. Not too long ago, a journalist went so far as to call his design immortal! Regardless, we feel confident promising that the PH 3½-3 pendant will inspire many décors – even in 10, 20 or 30 years.
Poul Henningsen was dubbed the Light Artist and his response to this was: “If you make art, you are an artist – good or bad. And lighting up a room is art!” His lamps are sold all over the world in great volumes nowadays – “lamp art” or not!
