PH Artichoke Ø600 Brass was designed by Poul Henningsen in 1958. He was tasked with designing a pendant for Langelinie Pavillonen in Copenhagen, specifically to create something entirely glare-free. His genius solution was to distribute 72 leaves across 12 rows, creating a light that doesn’t glare no matter the angle. The pendant is now considered a design icon. It is famous around the world, and what’s more, it still hangs at Pavillionen in Copenhagen. PH Artichoke is also known as ‘Koglen’ (‘the Cone’), named after its distinct expression.
The lamp is a good example of Poul Henningsen’s visionary approach to design that focused on the impact of the light on its surroundings, not to mention his strong aesthetic sense. Despite being designed over 60 years ago, the pendant is as popular as ever. With its sculptural expression and comfortable light—not to mention the increased interest in Danish design classics—the lamp is a stellar addition to modern décor.
NB! Brass is a natural material that changes based on its surroundings, and as a result, the surface of your brass product will become darker and less glossy over time. This is a natural process that allows each lamp to develop its own individual patina. If you want the surface to stay glossy and light, you can use a brass polisher. Note that you need to use a special polishing product made for brass or copper with as little abrasive as possible. Use a soft cloth to polish your product, and make sure to use the included gloves, so you don’t leave fingerprints.
