One of Piet Hein’s great passions was geometry and mathematics. He had a rare talent for creating simplicity, poetry and tangible design from even complicated mathematic formulas. The Sinus lamp from 1967 is a great example of this.
The form of the lamp is inspired by the sine curve, a mathematically harmonious shape. Using it is light-technically a master stroke. The curve of the lamp makes the light shine brightly in the area which one would like to be illuminated. At the same time the light reaching the eye and the surroundings is free of glare.
The design is light, elegant and does not take up much room physically, which makes the Sinus pendant perfectly fit above a dinner table where a good light source is needed while ensuring the view inside the room and perhaps even a nice view outside.
