The Vl 56 was designed for Folkets Hus in Vesterbro, Copenhagen by the well-known functionalist architect Vilhelm Lauritzen. Originally designed and built for the labor movement, Folkets Hus was a total work of art, with Lauritzen designing everything in the building - from electrical outlets to door handles and from furniture to lamps. The venue opened in 1956 and still exists today, known as the Vega music venue. If you visit the building today, you will still see Vilhelm Lauritzen's lamps above the bar next to the concert hall.
The VL 56 has been re-launched in 2023 by Louis Poulsen with only minor adjustments from the original design. Available in both a chrome and brass version, both models are guaranteed to impress in living rooms, kitchens and workspaces. The pendants emit a glare-free and downward light that is softened by the small perforations.
If you choose the brass version, be aware that the surface will patinate over time - it is untreated. Both lamps come with a canopy and 4 m white textile cord.
